‘Long Story Short’. Kickstarter Looks to Celebrate Short Films in March 2020.

So I’ve been working on a short film of mine now for the past year. Technically it’s been a little more than a year but anyway, the point is, my team and I are closer than ever to a proper general assembly of our film which has left me feeling both elated and a little terrified.

‘Valens’ is a sci-fi/romance/drama which I wrote and directed this past Summer 2019.

Shot entirely on location in Lebanon and utilizing the quality talents of native cast and crew, we were able to craft a genuine and universal story about a young man on a journey of self-discovery in the midst of civil unrest in his homeland. The film also carries subtle religious and environmental undertones as well which ground the story with a sense of relatability and invites fresh perspective to these topics respectively.

But before I get ahead of myself, it’s important to note that Valens is far from finished. With a 2D animation sequence intended to reflect the aesthetic of famed Japanese Anime Director, Shinichiro Watanabe; A hefty sprinkling of VFX throughout the film, Color Grading and Sound Design. We still have our work cut out for us. Especially when one considers the price tag attached to these vital elements.

Now, it wasn’t until a recent conversation I had with my girlfriend following a screening we had together where she commented that she thought a trailer could be made anytime in order to acquire the necessary finishing funds for the film. This was also around the time I stumbled upon an article published by Kickstarter (I had no idea they ran a blog),which you can find here.

Kickstarter has always been filmmaker friendly when it comes to crowdfunding film/theatre projects. Their platform offer the added benefit of continued, reliable support as you navigate through the development and eventual launch of your campaign.

This March 2020 is no different as they gear up to Launch ‘Long Story Short’; A monthlong homage to short-form filmmaking.

Throughout March, we’ll shine our spotlight on short films by promoting live projects on a dedicated landing page, in our newsletters, and on social media. We’ve also tapped a few industry experts to project scout on the site during the month.

…This is just taste of what myself and other filmmakers are in store for when we begin development of our Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page!

I know this news is a bit late as March is already around the corner but to all of my Filmmaker friends out there with projects currently in development, this may be as good a time as any to lock in that production budget!

As for Valens; We’ll be starting a campaign of our own very soon.

Keep an eye out!
